The North Carroll High School Choral Boosters will hold a winter basket bingo Friday in the school cafeteria.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for food purchases, and games will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

A 50/50 raffle will be held.

Proceeds will benefit the school's choral program. The school is at 1400 Panther Drive, Hampstead.

Snow date is Feb. 13.

Carroll Promenaders to offer square dancing

Carroll Promenaders, a modern square dance club, will hold a Hearts & Flowers square dance from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at North Carroll High School.

The cost is $4. Young people are welcome. The level is MS/PS with 2x2 rounds. Doren McBroom will be the caller and "Just Tim" Pilachowski will be the cuer.

High school ensemble offers singing Valentines

The North Carroll High School Ensemble will deliver singing valentines Feb. 14.

Members of the ensemble will deliver the Valentines to homes and businesses as requested.

The package includes three love songs and a rose for $25.

Hampstead group plans business fair for Feb. 28

The Hampstead Business Association will hold its annual Business Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 28 at North Carroll High School.

Interested businesses are welcome to participate and showcase their products and services. Exhibitors may rent a booth in one of several areas inside and outside. Electricity and tables are available.

The association does not allow dangerous objects to be sold at the fair. Businesses may sell their own products and services, but no unpaid solicitation is allowed.

Sponsorships for the fair also are available, ranging from $250 to $1,000.

Band concert, lollipop sale planned for Carroll school

Manchester Elementary School pupils are participating in several activities this month.

  • The Student Council will hold a lollipop sale during homeroom from 8:20 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. through Feb. 13.

  • Fourth-grade band members will perform a beginner instrumental program for their parents at 7 p.m. today in the school gymnasium. Snow date will be Feb. 11.

  • Pupils in prekindergarten, kindergarten and first and second grades and their parents will play PTA Book Bingo on Tuesday at the Manchester Activities Building. Dinner will be from 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., followed by a brief PTA meeting at 6:45 p.m. and bingo at 7 p.m.

    Story time, youth book club set for North Carroll library

    North Carroll branch library, 2255 Hanover Pike, Greenmount, will offer:

  • Family Story Time for all ages (children age 3 and younger must be with an adult) at 10 a.m. today and tomorrow.

  • Evening Family Story Time -- "Sniffles and Sneezes" for all ages (children age 3 and younger must be with an adult) at 6:45 p.m. today. Stories, songs, activities and a craft will be featured.

  • "Time Warp Trio: Tut Tut by Jon Scieszka" for ages 7 to 10 at 6:45 p.m. tomorrow. Children will join the North Carroll High School Honor Society and the book's characters, Fred, Sam and Joe and their blue book of time travel, for crafts, puzzles and facts about the story.

  • The North Carroll Book Discussion Group for ages 9 to 12 at 6:45 p.m. Monday. Running Out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix will be discussed.

    Carroll teacher's work featured in math textbook

    North Carroll Middle School teacher Frances Diseroad has had one of her teaching techniques used in the 2004 edition of the Glencoe Mathematics: Applications and Concepts Course 1 Book.

    A picture and the idea were published in the teachers' edition of the text in the "Teacher to Teacher" section.

    Hampstead Elementary: A Scholastic Book Fair will be held during the school's winter fest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the media center. The book fair will continue Monday to Feb. 13, when students can purchase books from 8:20 a.m. to 8:50 a.m. daily. 410-751-3420.

    Church news

    Lazarus United Church of Christ: Worship will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday with the Rev. Verna Call's message, "Whom Shall I Send?" The Gospel Gang and Chimes will provide music. The church is at 5101 S. Church St., Lineboro. 410-374-1304.
